APC Replacement Batteries: Match the Back-UPS Model Before Ordering a Cartridge
A Back-UPS family name is not a replacement-battery reference.
We have not performed hands-on testing of the products discussed. Manufacturer references and official guidance support the documented information below; comparison exercises are our editorial guidance.
A Back-UPS family name is not a replacement-battery reference. Schneider's US and Canadian matrix assigns different cartridges to specific APC models and identifies some models whose batteries are not user replaceable. Before comparing battery offers, read the full UPS model marking. The first decision is whether the manufacturer documents a user-replaceable cartridge for that exact unit.
Copy the model without dropping its suffix
The matrix lists BE650G1 and BE650G1-CN with RBC17 and marks them user replaceable. Schneider's separate BE650G1 product specification independently names RBC17. This supplies a documented model-to-cartridge example, rather than a rule covering every unit described as Back-UPS 650 or pictured in a similar enclosure.
Keep the model suffix with the record. A seller's shortened title may omit details that the replacement matrix uses to distinguish equipment. If the marking cannot be read or the unit differs from the listed reference, obtain an exact answer from Schneider before ordering. A similar wattage or case shape is not a supported replacement method.
Read neighbouring models as different entries
The same matrix specifies APCRBC110 for BE550G and APCRBC154 for BE600M1. Those examples show why a cartridge chosen for another Back-UPS cannot simply be carried into a new order. Compare the complete cartridge code, not only the letters RBC, a voltage figure or the number of batteries shown in a seller image.
The matrix lists BE425M and BE500G3 without an available replacement battery cartridge and says their batteries are not user replaceable. Do not convert an online listing of loose cells into manufacturer approval to rebuild such a unit. This guide provides no enclosure opening, live electrical work, wiring, cartridge rebuilding or bypass instructions.
Separate identification from fault diagnosis
The BE650G1 specification describes its replacement as a 12 V, 9 Ah lead-acid cartridge. Those details help identify the documented product, but matching two numbers on a loose battery does not establish a complete approved cartridge. Use the manufacturer's specified assembly and the exact unit's instructions instead of constructing a substitute from a partial specification.
An alarm or short observed runtime is not proof that a replacement battery is the only required repair. Follow the equipment's diagnostic guidance and obtain service advice where the cause is unclear. We have not tested the unit, measured a restored runtime, or established that a cartridge purchase will resolve every fault.
Compare actual cartridge offers
For an illustrative purchasing record, write the UPS model, manufacturer matrix entry, replacement cartridge and user-replaceable status on four lines. A purchaser documenting BE650G1 can record RBC17; a person documenting BE550G has a different reference. This example concerns product identity and is not an instruction to perform the replacement.
Only after that identification should you compare seller identity, actual supplied cartridge, delivered total and return conditions. Check what the offer contains rather than assuming the photograph includes every part in the official assembly. No current offer price, remaining battery life or storage history has been verified for this article.
The cited matrix concerns US and Canadian models. European shoppers should use the relevant regional equipment reference and manufacturer lookup instead of transferring the BE650G1 example to a differently specified UPS. Finish with a documented match and the current service instructions. Where user replacement is not supported, keep that limitation visible rather than treating a cheap battery listing as permission to alter the equipment.
Compare the trade-offs
| UPS example | Manufacturer replacement | Status in cited matrix |
|---|---|---|
| BE650G1 / BE650G1-CN | RBC17 | User replaceable |
| BE550G / BE600M1 | APCRBC110 / APCRBC154 | Different model references |
| BE425M / BE500G3 | No available RBC listed | Not user replaceable |
