Plan ordinary file handling
Check supported recording formats, removable-media requirements and how files transfer to the computer or other destination. Include a compatible card if one is required and not supplied. Confirm whether the USB socket transfers files, powers the device, offers an audio-interface mode or supports only some of those functions. Do not infer every function from the connector shape. Before relying on a recording workflow, understand how a file is named, located, copied and backed up after the outing.

Buy when a self-contained supported recorder solves a recurring capture task and you can provide its microphones, media, power and file routine. Skip it when the phone's existing supported recording function already meets the need. Avoid treating an advanced recording format as a guarantee against every recording problem: placement, microphone limits and appropriate setup remain separate matters.
